Fable: Two Types of Dragons

A long time ago, not humans, but dragons ruled among the creatures of this planet. Back then, two types of dragons roamed the Earth, and they could be easily distinguished by the color of their scales, which both types wore with unbreakable and undeniable pride. Emerald dragons were the rulers of the land; they inhabited forests, mountains, plains, and valleys. Where there was land, there would be Emerald dragons. They were strong, graceful, and noble, but lacked common sense and were not very brilliant. On the other hand, there were Turquoise dragons, rulers of the oceans. They traveled the world by swimming freely, and they loved to race each other. Turquoise dragons were characteristically frail, but possessed great intelligence, kindness, imagination, and intuition. Their god, Dragonlord, created them because he thought they would complement each other perfectly, he thought they were two beautiful pieces of the same puzzle. However, the harsh reality was that both types hated each other, or at least, their elders did. Hating each other was like a tradition to the dragon species. Emerald dragons despised Turquoise dragons because they did not believe in their god, Dragonlord, and because they were somewhat presumptuous. Turquoise dragons hated Emerald dragons because they thought their religion beliefs were childish, and they thought they were inferior to them because of their intelligence. Despite their lack of affection for each other, they still needed to trade all types of goods, and they surprisingly did. A great wall (built on ancient times) ran all across the continents, separating land and sea. This wall caused their trading to be a little old style, and it went something like this:

Emerald dragon (standing on the land side of the wall) *shouting*: “Are you ready?

Turquoise dragon (on the sea side of the wall) *shouting*: “Just do it already!”

Yes, they traded goods by throwing and catching packages across the great wall, never making direct contact with each other. But one day, tired of their bickering while attempting to trade goods, Dragonlord decided to raise the wall between the two types of dragons so tall that they couldn’t even fly above it to throw packages to the other side.  The wall had become practically impassable. The dragons were very confused. Suddenly, all dragons on planet Earth heard a voice that seemed to come from the sky: “You must work together to destroy the wall, or else all will perish.” But the message fell on deaf ears. Both Turquoise and Emerald dragons tried to demolish the wall on their own, but the wall wouldn’t budge. Days passed and havoc wrecked. Dragons were starving and falling ill because they couldn’t trade with each other, and yet they couldn’t swallow their pride and work together.

Soon, dragons became extinct and gave way to the next dominant species of the Earth, the humans. Some say the same thing that doomed dragons will doom us too, but we cannot know for sure, only time will tell.
