At That Time
At the time of the shootings at Kent State,
I was told little; being only eleven
years old. Now in this very decrepit and late
time of my life, I can sadly say
that I should have done more to offer my sorrow
(against the "establishment's" dictate
that the bullets of lead sharpened with hate).
The young victims I mourn, with no promise of tomorrow;
those students cut off and cut down with no promise of today.
