NthGen: Ravishingly [revised version]

"Ravishingly'

redefines androgony:

"more beautiful than a woman can

"be, more handsome than a man,"

he is quite the anomaly.

Haters still manage to keep pace---

the mayhem that they stir up mocks

the very concept of courtesy.

The efforts that they raise  and put

forth is more than a social slight:

too many, far too many, attacks.

Ba Ba Ba sings all over known space:

his records are broadcast every place.

He wears a shimmering tunic and silver slacks,

singing (hold steady young hearts!) barefoot,

or sometimes with his signature blue socks,

(with reflective, small spangles like stars at night)

on.  For comfort and, perhaps, agility

(and not just seeking publicity),

Ba Ba Ba, still adolescent, eschews

the very concept and collection of shoes.

Delicacy has put its gentle trace---

just look at that face;

those eyes, those lips, all framed by long hair,

no wonder his listeners stare and stare.

Author's Notes/Comments:

In the first version the name of the eponymous character was supposed to be a humorous allusion to the Beach Boys and to a character in the science fiction written by Cordwainer Smith.  However, upon reflection, the more honest choice is to use the name from January of 1980, when this character was first written in a very awkward, very unsuccessful, prose piece.

The speaker of the poem is also fiction and neither character is reflective of anyone that I know.
