I could never be

What you always wanted

I could never be

The one to make you smile



But I tried to be

Someone who was there

And I tried to be

The sparkle in your eyes



I tried to be

The warmth in your heart

The kind to keep you warm

In the cold of a dead night



But warmth was never there

And pain was all I felt

Together in the stars

But distant in the clouds



Eyes so dark and pale

Closed to all but tears

Cheeks cold as stone

And lips as dry as old tears



Pain as sharp

As a razors edge

A heart as broken

As a shattered windshield



Time was all I had

To be what I had strived for

But time runs out

And some things can never be



But with all the time in the world

I knew I couldnt be

Just what you were lookin for

I just could never be
