Fasting

I am thirsty but will not take

Soft drinks or water clean and neat

I am hungry but would not have

A dish of rice or bread of wheat

I am no more interested in

Butter, cheese, eggs or salty meat

Though savory, I'll never taste

Salad of cabbage, carrot, beet

By my Lord have been prohibited

Foods piquant, delicious and sweet

Tasty, juicy and luscious fruits

Till my Lord permits, I don't eat

Of neither vice nor temptation

I can acknowledge the receipt

A blissful state of self-control

My heart does have in every beat

For a month only these abstentions

Can save me from hell's fire and heat

A drill of discipline, devotion

Every Ramazan I have to repeat

How can I fall prey to Satan

With his foul trick and vicious feat

Submission of my self to Lord

Causes me to go into retreat

His Mercy would encircle me

When my God Almighty I meet

By the grace of God in Paradise

I hope that I will take my seat

Pledge of my Lord is a big reward

Of lasting peace, luxurious treat
