Be Sure

What a bizarre news is in the press

The world’s longest Flamenco dress

With a thirteen meters’ lengthy tale

Was worn by a Spanish female

Carrying two hundred kilos’ weight

Of precious cloth as sure as fate

I wonder what the watchers gain

How does this prospect entertain?

What for the people are insane

Is the whole function not in vain

Is this the way the things should go

Is it not mere pomp and show?

Sheer display of extravagance

Or snobbish pride of performance

Fanciful gratification

Or pretentious ostentation

Lavish use of time and finance

What’s the use of such an instance?

In stead of seeing frenetic dance

Around us we ought to have a glance

There is millions of indigent

Penniless, needy, insolvent

For down-and -out we shut the door

Are they not humans we ignore?

We owe a bit of what we get

Or we are prone to be in debt

If we don’t give them some relief

Some day we might be filled with grief

We do not happen to believe

Our ancestors, Adam and Eve

Put on Flamenco dress or robe

Be sure none is bare on the globe

Hi Iqbal I can relate to this poem. So many silly unneccesary things are done in this world today when so many people need so much help..... it's a waste, I reckon! Anyways...nice poem... great thougts. Roz
