How We Met

Folder:
Love of my Life

Checking out the talent at the dance,

A beautiful woman, I happened to glance.

At that moment everyone seemed to disappear

The beating of my heart all I could hear.

I knew I had to take a chance

And walk over and ask her to dance.

She moved gently into my arms,

I became totally lost in her charms.

Three dances before I had to go,

I told my buddy, She will be my wife,

This I know.

He thought I had lost my mind,

But it was my “other” I did find.

For weeks I searched high and low

I had to find her, I couldn't let go.

Then one night she was standing at the gate,

She asked if I would stay?

I replied only if she would be my date.

We danced til the dance was at an end,

Our attraction had grown and our love about to begin.

I walked her to her car and did not tarry,

I asked her then and there to marry.

My heart knew and hers did as well

But of the two of us she was the more practical.

Two long years I waited,

And all we did was dated.

Then came the call from Uncle Sam,

She then gave me her hand.

Off to Basic Training I did go,

To beautiful Amarillo.

Texas that is...wide open spaces,

Never to be one of my favorite places.

Then on to Californ-I-A

To the Desert and George Air Force Base.

Found a furnished chicken coop for our honeymoon suite,

But for a young couple in love, it was all we need.

July third we were wed,

Drove back to California to our rented bed ($50 a mo.)

Got lost once along the way,

But it has been 39 years and we haven't strayed.

We both have changed since way back when

But hon, in my eyes, you haven't changed

From the girl I married then.

Every day is better than the day before,

You have my heart forever and that is sure.

This is the story of how we met,

And babe, the best is to come yet.

I love you Jody and always will,

Waking up with you is my greatest thrill.

I thank God each day for the gift of you,

and promise as long as there is breath in me

My love will always be true.

I love you Jody

Huck

Author's Notes/Comments:

It happened just like that. It was love at 1st sight. She accepted my ring in December of 67 and we were married July 3, 1968 and it just keeps getting better.
