Captain Costickson for Colonel Majors

Captain Costickson for Colonel Majors, please.

Thank you Sergeant,

Colonel, it is me,

Major Costickson, glad you called in,

How is my co-pilot Leanne,

And that beautiful wife of yours Seina. Doin’?

They are doing fine sir,

Excuse me…sir…did you say Major?

That I did son,

It will be effective at the beginning of the month.

By order of the Secretary from office of the President,

They want you in Washington on the first

So our Commander-in-Chief can present.

Enough about that, why did you call?

Sir, I wanted let you know about my son and all.

Your son! Well I’ll be skinned alive.

How are they son? Are they both alright?

Sir, we are at the hospital in NICU,

Harlan wouldn’t have made it without a miracle or two.

Seina…well for a bit it was touch-and-go,

But she is recovering well now, but it will be slow.

Harlan was not responding and I had lost all hope,

I lost my faith. I was such a dope.

My daughter Lacy loved her brother so,

She stormed off to the NICU refusing to let her brother go.

She went in there and took him in her lap,

She prayed and cried, the nurse thought she was taking a nap.

As she reached down, to wipe from the baby Lacy’s tears,

The baby opened its eyes and at Lacy began to stare.

At that moment a miracle was given to us,

Lacy learned the power of prayer,

And baby Harlan started to fuss.

Needless to say, we were all in shock,

That the faith of one so young gave us cause to take stock.

I realized that my own faith had been shaken,

That though I strayed, I wasn’t forsaken.

I know I have been truly blessed,

And now understand the reason for this test.

It is enough that they are now doing fine,

Sir, I apologize, I have taken too much of your time.

Nonsense son, do you all have a ride home?

I still need a few flight hours, I would love to come.

I felt like a grandpa with my little copilot on my lap,

I would enjoy y’all’s company, you know I’m just a big sap.

I think tomorrow morning we will be able to leave.

We will need to bring some equipment for Harlan

And that chopper would make it easy.

Fine, I will drop by tonight to bring flowers by,

Then bring the chopper tomorrow, and home we will fly.

Thank you sir, Leann will be thrilled,

I’ll tell Seina and she too, I know she will.

See you tonight sir, and carnations is her favorite flower,

I’ll say you will be by about nineteen hundred hours.

Bye sir.

Lacy, Leann, guess who is coming by to see us.

Who daddy, who? Don’t tease and make such a fuss.

Colonel Majors is coming by,

And tomorrow, he is bringing the helicopter and we will all fly.

Oh daddy, Uncle Ron is coming to see me?

UNCLE! When did he get promoted to Uncle my little honey bee?

Why not, daddy, he is part of our gang, you said so?

I guess I did sweetie, we will just have to give it a go.

When he gets here, you call him that, run and give him a hug.

I bet it will make him as happy as a bug in a rug.

You all stay here with grand mama and mom, I need to go see your mommy.

Seina…are you awake?

Sean, he is so beautiful, my eyes off of him I can’t take.

Babe, I just found out and it is for sure,

You are now talking to a Major.

Oh, Sean I am so proud of you, when did you find out?

Just now, I called Colonel Majors and he did almost shout.

He is coming by about seven tonight

To visit and find out what time to take his training flight.

He is quite taken with Leann,

Said since he didn’t have grands,

He somehow felt a connection when she held his hand.

You mean he is bringing the helicopter here?

That is what I mean.

Oh what a dear.

With all the stuff we will need to take home for the little man,

We would need a moving van.

The copter will handle it with room to spare,

And we can get home in a flash going by air.

Moms and dads will take the cars back,

By the time they get home,

Everything will be set up,

And we will have you in the sack.

Hello Harlan, I see your beautiful eyes,

He is trying to focus, see how hard he tries?

I love you son…we all do,

We have been given a miracle son,

And that miracle is you.

Author's Notes/Comments:

If you have missed any part of this saga, I have posted both Judy's and my writings at http://home.cfl.rr.com/hucksoap. Both 'Way We Were', the beginning of these poetic soap operas, and 'Letters Home' are posted there. I echo Judy's comments in her 'Part Two (The Last Month)' and thank you all for your continued support and patients, as the story developed. We hope we captured some of the day in and day out problems of our fighting men and women of being separated from family and the spouses that have to keep the family together while they are gone. God bless them for their sacrafice and may God bring them home soon to be reunited with their love ones. They and their spouses that are waiting here at home, are truely heros and on behalf of a grateful nation, I salute them.
