We are the Unsung Heroes

Folder:
Remembering 9/11

We are the unsung heroes that get up at the crack of dawn

To open the little family owned restaurant to get the bacon on.

We are the unsung heroes that get the kids off to school,

And gulp down breakfast and coffee before catching the car pool.

We are the unsung heroes running that mom and pop store,

When a pregnant woman runs out of ice cream and pickles and sends her husband for more.

We are the unsung heroes who work the emergency room in the wee hours of the night,

Saving lives in a seemingly endless fight.

We are the unsung heroes, just you and me,

Making our contribution no matter how small to keep our country free.

The real heroes are the ones that go on day after day,

Working their jobs and earning their pay.

Each job they do makes a difference for us all,

Each day these unsung heroes continue to answer the call.

For all the unsung heroes, here is a little glory,

Each of you stand proud because without you there would be no American story.

We are the unsung heroes one and all,

Proud to do our part to make America stand tall.

To all of us and to you, I give this praise,

God bless, to all in the U. S. of A.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Dedicated to the man-in-the-street that goes to work each day. Makes his contribution. Goes home to prepare for the next day.  Most call it a rat race, I call it, "Freedom's Call."  I guess it is all in how you look at it.

Unsung Heroes give overall in our world. Rat race is not a problem, killing one another out of hate is. Rats are holy, only you had to go through some old cultural stories. This poetry is a good inspiration for the normal you and me who wait for the simplicity of life in peace.

Huck you said it all here I think. It don't take a very big poem to write about our unsung heroes. The truck drivers that you pass or pass you at 2:30- 3:00 in the morning on the interstate, the farmer that gets up at 3 or 4 to milk, the cows, the mailman that walks miles a day so we may hear from a son, daughter or any loved one. All these people and millions more are the unsung hereos and never get credit for it.Thanks for sharing this.A good write!

Huck,
I honestly think that this is the best poem you've written in quite a while. I truly enjoyed it. Keep up the great work.
