poem_222_What_A_Life

Born of a great leader

He respected by many

And I by his side

Others think things any

Because I’m his daughter

They feel I’m given slack

But what they refuse to see

Is the hard work I lay track

With Kaminari Taiko

I practice 3 times a week

Then a second group I practice

Kofu Daiko I seek

Not only these two

But more load to come

With my father wanting me

An Okinawan dancer to become

And because I love music

All instruments the same

I want to learn shamisen

Which brings more to tame

Talk, talk, talk, talk

All these others gossip

Talkin’ smack about my father

Sayin’ he’s too easy with the whip

As they see him not strict

Like they know what he tells me

When no one is looking

He cracks down mercilessly

Out of respect, I know

For it’s not public discussion

But at the same time

Shut up the repercussion

So many people think

They know what’s going on

Saying my father’s favoring

Simply because I am his spawn

But ‘o little do they know

Of my father’s expectations

The business he keeps me

So they may stop such accusations

From a perfect school record

To an accomplished own being

My father seeks within me

Someone truly sightseeing

From looks to the grade

Accomplishments to goals

Someone to look up to

These are my rolls

But no one sees this

The work that I do

To keep his wishes

Of me to come true

Destined to be great

Having to start young

Precocious from the start

Not from a kid I have sprung

Already a young adult

Already a young lady

Already in the real world

An inner child left shady

What a life

Such little time

To be a kid

For it’s a crime
