poem_010_Parents_Think_They_Know_Everything

All to often parents think they know there kid

Not really knowing the secrets they’ve hid

It’s sad that the “all knowing parents” no so little of their spawn

They might not even know their child’s secrets when they are gone

Each child holds that certain secret they use to rebel

Holding it close and they’ll never tell

Parents try so hard to keep their child from suffering and hurting

They try to make their child happy with diverting

To some extent the concealment of the world from the child is inevitable

But the time will come when the child needs to be given some trouble

The parents must unsheathe the dark side of the world

And give the child a chance to unfurled

Some parents don’t understand this important factor in life

Resulting in a child’s hidden secret and often leading to strife

This is were the term “rebellious teens” was coined from

This is why suicide is thought of from their succumb

The parents think their child doesn’t have much to worry about or much stress

Until the child does something or experiences something and makes their life a mess

Communication, being open, and not putting down a child

Could help a teen be more beguiled

Parents shouldn’t disagree with every little thing a kid has to say

It causes the teen years and even the future to be in such a fray

Parents think they know what their child’s true identity

And for all they know the child could be full of obscenity

It’s hard to open up to a parent when you know there are certain things they wouldn’t like of your characteristic

It could be a characteristic in a highly sexual manner and the parent would think the child sadistic

No child wants to be thought of this way, but can’t help who they are

This feeling leads to actions that are sometimes bizarre

Lots of times a parent doesn’t understand their child or really know the true them

And the child is then living in a life of condemn

Parents think they know everything to know

Yet they only know from what their kids show

Author's Notes/Comments:

(the category is in betrayal because I wrote this poem after my mother had made a comment to me based upon what she thought of me and what I am and I am not. One of them being the rocker I am as well as bi-sexual... you can only imagine what a country chiristian would think of that =\ )
