Thirty years ago
the flood hit my town.
steady rain came pouring
no alarms raised, no warning bells.
The day begun as usual
all tasks were done
one of those busy days.
The rain kept teeming
water rising
people were alarmed.
There was a buzz, a fuss
as farther south, oh
my town was drowning.
Viewing from atop
buildings and bridges
houses and trees
by strong torrents swept
to the sea of that
hurricane cruel darts.

Sounds like Katrina on a smaller scale but scarey nonetheless. I hope you were not left homeless...
