Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone. And do not trouble about the future for it is yet to come. Live in the present and make it so
beautiful, that it will be worth remembering. ~Scott Taylor Idus

In response to the above comment, you are very right that there is so much pain in the world that of course you cannot forget your past. The idea of living in the now is not to let your past keep you down or worry about what may come in the future. I agree that you must not ignore what you’ve been through but if you dwell on it too long, you cannot have hope. Just like you mentioned, you must “accept” the past and the future, but don’t wallow in them. If you cannot find hope for the present moment and have the ability to live joyfully despite your background or even your current environment, you are bound to lead a very empty, miserable life.
you might live in the now, but unless you face the past 'the now' can be very difficult to deal with. People suffering a bad childhood might have issues to deal with, such as abuses or neglect or both. If they never look back into their past then they are not willing to face the fact that they suffered injustices, if you can't face the fact it has happened to you before then you will never be able to accept that it most likely will happen in the future, thus your 'live in the now' likely limits you to sitting on your couch rocking back and forth to music until you've hypnotized yourself into believing life is peachy.
