Measuring Happiness

Folder:
Thoughts on Life

Happiness is not measured

with an amount of money

or the total of people

that you supervise.

It is found in those fractions

of a moment before

a smile fades away.

It is found in the meetings

of puckered lips~

the congress of kisses.

It is counted by how many

times you look kindly

on another person

or reach out in support.

Happiness is found

in the gathering of all

those moments strung together.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by: The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions—the little soon-forgotten charities of a kiss, a smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment in the disguise of a playful raillery, and the countless other infinitesimals of pleasurable thought and genial feeling. ~Samuel Taylor Coleridge
