The Shadow Proves the Sunshine

If we were consumed

by continual sunshine,

we would be too blind

to value the blessing.

If it wasn’t for the

shadows produced

in darkened corners,

we wouldn’t see the light.

But by the same token,

if it wasn’t for the sun,

we wouldn’t know when

there was darkness.

We need both to welcome

the light when it appears

and to fear the nighttime

when it shields the shine.
