A porcelain figurine
reaches the end
of the assembly line
and sits in front
the factory inspector
to be examined
one last time
before shipment to
the anxious customer.
At first glance,
it appears flawless,
but upon closer scrutiny
the defects become
visible to him-
the alabaster veneer
marred with discolorations,
fragileness displayed
in the revealing cracks.
He realized he would
have to send her
to the rejected pile
because no amount
of paint could cover
this fractured façade,
glue could not mend
this illusion of perfection
now chipped away.
This is a tragically beautiful piece.
Was a pleasure to read.
