I hear them using terms like vampire. They must know my predilection for survival—even at the cost of others. I admire the bats in a cave or the mosquitos flittering about in the swamps. Stagnant water draws sanguivorous candy. Human flesh attracts bloodsuckers like candy lures young children. I sit on a lawn chair positioned in the garage. I spray myself with insect repellant and watch mosquitos go on senseless kamikaze runs into the zapper. Prepare a mug of kava and sit back for the show.
