NUEVO DE JULIO

It was an opulent hotel room.  There was a bidet next to the toilet.  I was anxious to get out and about and check out Buenos Aires.  It was a Monday so I figured that things would be pretty quiet.  I left the hotel room to take a walk.  The streets were overrun with pedestrians.  They were excited and stopping traffic in its tracks.

I drifted along with the crowd toward Avenida Nuevo de Julio.  There was a party going on for sure.  The streets were closed off and Fitz Páez was giving great joy to the hearts of the partiers.  I learned that Argentina was celebrating their bicentennial.  I was confused since their independence day is July 9—hence the name of the Avenida.

What I learned was that this occasion was celebrating the May revolution in 1810.  Okay, the music was great and there were plenty of vendors selling food.  I never protest being able to drink beer in the street.
