SMOKED IN THE PARKING LOT

The mark within strikes when we most look without.  We always get caught when we begin to believe our own invincibility and intelligence.

calling out the mark

that lives inside my own mind

bites me on the ass

The guy comes up as we drink beer in the parking lot.  He is offering to sell all kinds of drugs.  He has Molly, Shrooms and blotter.  I’m never sure what to make of these kinds of guys but we talk a little.  We begin offering him tokes of our weed and he never actually shows us any drugs.

He hangs around and we chat.  The doobie gets passed around and he gets multiple tokes.  Then his friend comes up to drag him away from us.  I stand there sipping a beer before bogarting the joint.  I start to realize that he smoked us.  He never had any drugs but managed to finagle a high off our stash.

Proverbial glass

hoisted high to honor con

beat at my own game

He caught a buzz on our time all while proffering up the notion that he was going to provide us with the goods.  Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the champion.  When you’re outplayed, you’re outplayed.  Learn to accept it and find a way to learn from the mistakes you have made.  That haughty good feeling vanquished but with a smile.  Before you call someone else a mark, make sure you realize that you yourself can also sometimes be the mark

My Achilles heel

is my own self importance

I pay the piper
