and faux nostalgia

grips my soul

as I remember glory days

that weren’t quite mine

but I’ll never submit

to the indignity

of admitting its false

and Thunderclap Newman

was a one hit wonder

 glorified in cover

by Tom Petty

but there was something

in the water

long before

there was something in the air

and our livers and lungs

struggle to survive

make the best

of a bad situation

but somehow the memories

are always inconsistent

with the actual events gone done
