The Phillies game on the tube

mid afternoon game; season opener

and I sit among unwashed masses

regulars Joes and Janes

huddled at a bar for Happy Hour

We’re late inning

Home town heroes clinging

to a narrow lead

and bottom shelf liquor

randomly and generously divvied

into shot glasses

Phillies hold on to win

and someone buys a round of shots

to celebrate the win

Hey, it’s one of 162

but it’s a start

The shot of Tullamore Dew

will help propel the delusion

that this season, unlike the last one

might be something special
