If I say “Hello”
you merely nod
politely acknowledging
my mortal existence
that’s so human
of you
but I must admit
with nary a trepid pulse
that your word
is of little meaning
to me
and that, quite frankly,
my hello
is merely intended
as polite chatter
to ease the tension
and keep things
on a civil basis
as long as our paths
are destined to cross
