let’s pretend
we’re poets
and try to make
some verse
out of this pretense
let’s see
what we can come
up with in the mass decay
of the human race
with sexual and racial tensions
and the frictions growing stronger
fissures in walls
reaching epic proportion

Yes, there is too much
fighting and bloodshed
but the tears of a poet
are unwanted
in consumer society
get them damn poets
the hell out of here
they’re a royal
pain in the ass
don’t need them anymore
toss them to the dogs
