Little kid asking me

what I wanna be

when I grow up

and at 25

I was surprised

by the question

so I told him

that I wanted to be a poet

when I grew up

but then again

I already am

a poet

and when he asks his dad

what a poet is

he’ll no doubt

be told that a poet

is a bum

but I can’t be

a bum

when I grow up either

that’s another thing

that I already am

so, in retrospect

I should’ve told him

a wrestling manager

That may be far fetched

but it always

has been my dream

and his father

wouldn’t know how

to respond to that

staircase wit

always is a nag

now I gotta

brood about it
