but I don’t live

in New York City

or San Francisco

or North Beach

or Paris, Gay Paree

No thanks

It would be

too easy

and easy isn’t

really the right way

Besides, I never wanted

to be a cliché

like a Beat poet

or a New York poet

or a Black Mountain

I’d much rather

just be

this half assed

half crazed

drunken fool

kicking it out

for no apparent reason

I always felt

the suit

that fitted me best
was the unpressed one

that didn’t quite

complement me fully

raggedy ass and unshaven

either a poet

or a rabbi

but too drunk to care

in either case.
