connects all the states

in the continental U.S.

and now the cities are connected

as well as human hearts

as homogenized thought

becomes law of the land

and dissenters

had pink streaks

painted down their spines

We could drive off

and go to and fro

and cower from the Big Red Scare

as McCarthy illumined

as to eternal threats

and voices of reason

were branded as treason
