Listening to a Miles Davis album is

                  really cool

He’s drawing “Sketches of Spain” as I sit back

                and relax

with a nice stick of marijuana

I wonder what will become of this moment

               after it’s gone

I guess it’ll never be forgotten though it

               seems insignificant

my mind always tries its best to remember

                the weirdest facts

maybe I’d have forgotten Thelonious Monk

                  or John Coltrane

maybe I’d forgotten these individuals

                 at some other time

this stick of marijuana seems as insignificant

                 as the moment

(It could just as easily been a beer)

I suppose I’ll just have to sit back

and allow the music to play

That may be the only significance

             to this entire moment

sometime in fall of 1985
