being a fan

of William Carlos Williams

I like to notice

mundane items

& circumstances

I try to capture

small moments

and resonate meaning

out of nothing

like forgetting to bring

a bottle opener

on a NJ Transit train

and not being able

to open a bottle of beer

I scramble thru my backpack

and locate a cheap lighter

It has a pot leaf and reads

“Nature’s way of staying high”

problem is,

that I ain’t got bud

and the lighter

isn’t working out

In a move

that’ll make my dentist cringe

(or rejoice greater profit)

I end up opening the bottle

using my teeth

It’s not an advisable

course of action

but it netted desired results

It also made me

reminisce over WCW

which warrants merit

in and of itself
