The Ballad of The Fallen Angel (or The Tragedies of War)

Folder:
War

Once upon a brief moment in time

An angel walked away.

He freed the lock to the golden door

And sauntered to the ground.

With the arrogance of mortal man,

Who thought he knew it all,

Transformed his heart to useless dust,

Erased the joys of love.

He sat and stared at a barren land

Known just as section four.

A world so corrupt with pain and hate,

He felt so right at home.

So now, he thought, I can truly hate.

There is no good down here.

Just look at all these pitiful fools

Who care naught for themselves!

They want all in material gain,

Blinded by flashing lights.

There is no God who will find me here.

My darkness, free to grow.

He saw riches, power & poverty,

Fear, death & blood that flowed.

He thrilled at the ire that spurned it on,

Picked up a weapon and aimed.

But,into his sites there stood a child.

A face familiar.

Who are you to stand so defiant!

I'll shoot your goodness down!

What a shame, angel, you don't know me.

We've met so many times.

And every time you shoot, I die

With hatred in my heart.

My innocence takes me home to God.

He says it's not my fault.

He leads me to His golden valley

And shows me all His love.

But, my heart is still not free from strife.

I can't forget the pain

Of the ease it took for you to shoot

A child who trusted you.

Do you know me, fallen angel?

Do you see me? And you?

We are doomed to live this life again.

I, with you, and, you, me.

We will fall and die until we stop.

God has plenty of time.

You must not shoot, so I will not hate.

Then love will change this land.

We will walk the lands and see the sky.

Peace will reign with sweet joy.

When comes the right time for us to die,

The golden gates will rise.

We will welcome the forgiveness

Of God's serenities

As we don our angel wings with pride

Side by side, forever.

This was a nice haven from reality, even if short lasted. I love your creativity and how it fills your pages with vivid emotions and images until I feel it stroking every nerve ending in my body with it bubbling over to critiquing your talent.

Well done Amy. This is beautiful and the title is intriguing, beckoning one to read the poem- which is well worth the read.
Well expressed, and a great story. Never mind how long it had been since you last posted a new one. Quality, not quantity, right?
Perhaps you would consider changing the word 'sites' to 'sights' which I believe is more in keeping with your intent.
Great work.

A very emotive piece that sails the seven corners of emotion. The phrasing is good with a sing-song rhyme and meter, (perhaps because it's a ballad, eh?). A moving work.

this one is full of deep thoughts and images that bring tears to ones eyes.....

I can feel the saddness deep inside my soul as I read these words...... that if read by different people might be translated into a personal fight or feeling.....

this was truly a gift penned with love and compassion.....you are truly a poetry goddess and I am still just a lowly trainee.... I read your words and they can bring such emotion to the surface......

you are a very talented poet and I enjoy reading words that you have captured .... painting such vivid works....

The haunting imagery of this poem
explicates the reality of our
human predicament. And within its
metaphoric lines and heartbeat
of emotions, I feel that angellic
essence of its creative conception:

"We will walk the lands and see the sky.
Peace will reign with sweet joy.
When comes the right time for us to die,
The golden gates will rise..."

A thought staggering piece, indeed.
And I'll surely be yearning to feel
its poetic essence again and again
for the survival of humanity...

A insightful portrayal, Amy...the fallen angel, the Walking Dude, the man with no face, etc.
I particularly like the freeflowing conversation of the different persona...and the almost peaceful and hopeful ending.
Smilesz.

Thanxs for sharing this ballad, lady ~
Take care.
