BRONX PRIDE
The Boogie Down lifeline
maintains a good frame of mind
the birthplace of hip-hop,
we grind until we shine
I gotta thank KRS
for teaching the theoretic
I grew up in the same building
located on Sedgwick
then I moved to the middle,
Bronx River to be exact
where the mighty Zulu Nation
kept brothers strong and intact
I was exposed to hip hop
when I listened to a mix tape
I heard music from all the legends
I knew I couldn't escape
I bought my first pair of Nikes
with my summer youth check
I shopped on Fordham on the weekends
or watched flicks in Throggs Neck
Sometimes I'll take the 1 train
to Van Courtlandt and 241st
or hop on the 2,meet my boy Drew
and build together with a verse
I want to give a list of all areas
that made this borough shine
like Parkchester, Tremont
and graf artists from Valentine
Concourse Village, Morrisania and
Mott Haven, too,was deep
even Kingsbridge and Pelham Bay
so the real heads don't sleep
you got Melrose, Edenwald
and Co-op City, too
there's Williamsbridge and High Bridge
and the streets of Soundview
and speaking of Soundview
here's a pill for the police to swallow
we will never forget the 41 shots
that killed Amadou Diallo!!!!!!
I'm on to Boston Road, Mosholu
Parkway and City Island-yes
to Riverdale and Hunts Point.......
them hookers take no mess
I can't forget the Bronx Zoo
where kids go to have fun
and peace goes out to the 3 Hills
Marble, Castle, and Gun
I hope I didn't forget all other areas
that I left nameless
because we're still standing tall for all
of y'all keeping the Boogie Down famous
GO YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dapz man,
I was begining to think that I'm the only one who remembers the "summer youth checks" lol. Nice write!
sunrise on east river
