Well it isn't really a poem... it is a fable I wrote with my friend Daniel... hope you enjoy (:
The fox and the smartness
By Ines Lujan and Daniel Escobar
Thirteen billion years ago the entire universe was the size of an egg. At some point there was an enormous explosion, and, little by little, the planets formed, the stars multiplied, and space expanded and expanded and expanded. The gods of the universe convened a meeting at the Great Council of Heaven in order to decide what to do with the little blue planet that they had named “Earth”. Filled with luscious lakes and oceans, fertile green valleys, and the bluest of skies, the gods wanted to create a happy world. “How should we start the happy world” asked one god.
“Maybe we should start with a red cardinal and a blue jay flying in the sky” said another god.
“I agree with that my brother” said another god. Then a big door appeared; not an ordinary door, but the door of life. It opened and the two little birds came out flying into the sky.
“But we need other kind of animals, the ones that walk on Earth” said the first god.
The door of life opened again, freeing all types of terrestrial creatures, lions, jaguars, elephants, dogs, giraffes; all of them came out running and singing.
“Now our water bodies look really empty; why don’t we create animals that can live in them?”
Just by saying this, the door of life opened again; but this time aquatic creatures came out of it, and danced until they arrived to the seas.
“Something is missing, something different from all the animals.”
The door of life opened yet again and the humans came out of it smiling at their new home.
Pleased with their work, the gods left the Earth and the animals living in peace.
The lion was the first to speak to the other animals, “What a beautiful world, we can run, sing, dance, sleep and eat in harmony.”
The red cardinal agreed with the lion “but we cannot forget that we are as one”
The animals lived like this for a really long, long time. But one day the fox realized that the other animals weren’t as smart as he was.
So he went to visit the rabbit, “Hi my friend I’m planning a meeting with our friends in “Blue valley” ” the fox said.
“What a wonderful idea, I’ll be there.” Answered the rabbit.
By the afternoon the rabbit arrived to the Blue Valley but was surprised when he didn’t see anyone. The rabbit took two more steps and fell into a large hole. In the hole he founded more animals that had been tricked by the fox.
Days passed by and the animals found their way out of the hole by working as a team. Now they knew they couldn’t believe in the fox.
After some years, the fox was walking in the blue Valley: “I feel really satisfied with my smartness; I can’t believe how naive the other animals are”. While saying this, the fox fell into the same hole he had dug to trick the other animals.
“Help me!” “Help me please!” The fox screamed, but nobody was around and the fox couldn’t get out of it.
The fox had felt in his own trick.
