Prisoner gazing
longingly
toward artistic triumph
architectural glory
gazing, dreaming
clinging desperately
to a faith long vanquished
and yet
in the setting sun
the hope promised
by Shelley and Keats
still springs eternal
Author's Notes/Comments:
The photograph was taken at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. It is a long distance photograph of the Art Museum. I wrote the poem riding the train home that evening.
