the only walk

for the day

is to the mailbox;

stepping on melting ice;

ground wet from melted snow.

I enjoy the cold air

as it brushes 

against my bare arms

I’m wearing flipflops

so my toes get 

to enjoy the slush.

and I check the mailbox

which is empty.

so I’ll have to come back

in an hour or two.
