OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE

Going down South

head down to ole Mississippi

to check out the Delta

gotta check it out

after all these years

of listening to the blues.

It’s probably just

a bunch of sheds

with poor people

who just desperately

want to get

the hell out of there

but I’m that goofy,

middle class white guy

who romanticizes poverty—

someone else’s poverty, of course.

If I hadda live it myself

I wouldn’t be romanticizing it.

I’d be screaming

Ah, let me out

Get my pansy ass out of here

It’s always easy to pose

when all you have to do is talk the talk

without having to walk the walk.
