Turkish Airlines always

has great air fare

to Eastern Europe.

I flew to Skopje

simply because

I never went there before.

Macedonia is interesting;

Former Yugoslav republic

with a mix of Slavic

and Turkic peoples.

The statues of Philip & Alexander 

in Macedonia Square are stunning.

& there’s a 15^th century bridge

leading into the old Ottoman Bazaar.

The people were nice

and the food was pleasant.

The airport leaves a lot

to be desired.

It’s in the middle of nowhere

and there’s nothing going on.

There’s a single restaurant

with barely adequate food

in the waiting area

and no entertainment around.

A Burger King is the choice

once inside the secured ara

and a single bar

with limited hours.

I was bored out of my mind.

There’s a lot of controversy

between Macedonians, Greeks,

Albanians & Bulgarians

over turf and heritage.

I won’t enter that debate

but I am firm in the belief

that an airport

named after Alexander the Great

shouldn’t totally suck.
