TRIBUTE TO COLERIDGE SANS LAUDENUM

In Manhattan

did Genghis Khan rule;

conquest over heathens

& infidels in stasis

in contemporary modes.

The soldiers will overcome

a modicum of danger & suspense

to ravage the subways

filled & overflowing with drones

heading to & fro to nowhere.

The pitiful will be vanquished;

the lepers will be exiled

out on a long island

and the city will become holy;

purified for the dieites.

The skyscrapers graze the clouds

and Wall Street visions are nestled

with visions of stocks & bonds & gold;

the billowy smog of traffic jams

don’t deter a soul.

Jaywalkers control taxicabs

and a few museums speak up

to the onrushing avalanche

of city folk scurrying thru the park

to reach the other side.

A multitude of language floats

gently cascading the air

and red lights inspire

a quick symphony of horns

blaring modern urban despair.

Encircled by two rivers

heading east and heading west

til statues standing tall intensely

suggest a nectar of paradise

Of civilized moments unfound.
