Arrival/Departure

Weighing my burden,

I find my own starstruck self giving everything

to be at peace and stable.

Vicariously existing through stories,

I nod eagerly and listen as they tell me

what has happened since my departure.

My arrival will bring gossip,

as well as the decay of morality

that had befallen the city before I left.

If innocence isn't sanctified,

what is?
