Commonly Uncommon

How common is a teardrop
When there's happiness abound?
How often does my heart stop
When you're nowhere to be found?

How common is a bland night
When creatures roam the shadows?
How often do you give light
When I dream of the gallows?

The night is set aquiver
As I arise from my peace.
I feel a lonesome shiver
As I sit awake at ease.

How common is a scowl
When accompanied by friends?
How often do you hate me
When I need not make ammends?

How common is a worn soul
When there is no need to run?
How often must I cajole
When I need you to have fun?

My chest is feeling strange now
Not the pain I felt before.
I do not really know how
You have reached into my core.

How common is my laughter
When there's no need to be sad?
How often do we banter
When there is joy to be had?

How common is my issue
When I am never alone?
How often do I miss you
When clammy hands warm my own?

Do others feel this always?
Was I always all alone?
No, all might feel this someday
When they find their own small throne.

Author's Notes/Comments:

For a long time I was battling a deep and dark depression. Then I found two friends that I hung out with all the time. After a while I started to like one of the people, and we ended up dating. We've broken up since then, but I wrote this back in a time of pure happiness from being with him.
