there once was a turtle a lot like me
he hid in his shell far away from everybody
he wouldn't come out to eat or to play
he just tell everyone who came to go away
the turtles worried much about their friend
and they tried to help him over and over again
but the turtle never came out to see the sun
he never learned of anything pleasant or fun
chorus # 1
Mr. Turtle, Mr. Turtle
why are you shutting out the world
Mr. Turtle, Mr. Turtle
why don't you hear our words
a man came and saw the turtle hiding one day
he tried to say hi but the turtle said go away
but the ma wouldn't leave the turtle's side
he said I'll stay with you while you hide
days went by and the turtle did not understand
why he was cared for so much by this strange man
so one day he peeped his head out and asked why
the man smiled at him and pointed to the sky
chorus # 2
Mr. Turtle, Mr. Turtle
why are you shutting out the world
Mr. Turtle, Mr. Turtle
why don't you read my word
we are God's children hiding in our shell
we have deep dark secrets but we won't tell
like the turtle we forget about God's love
and how even when we hide he will never leave us
and he says to us
chorus # 3
my child, my child
why are you shutting out the world
my child, my child
why don't you read my word
and learn of my love
my love for you
ahhh!! i love this poem! it's simple, not indulgent in pride yet so well written and your point clearly made in statements!
"my child, my child
why are you shutting out the world
my child, my child
why don't you read my word
and learn of my love
my love for you "
i especially love the verse above. the repetion mirrors God's repetitive chase for us and His abundant love. what is so sweet is that He will never back down on us and you have clearly projected that.
i think it's quite funny as well as a poignant reminder for al of us that it does not serve ourselves well when we hide from the One that truly loves and cares for us. and isolation also breeds destruction and we all must be aware of the devil's advances and stand firm with the Lord against it.
blessed be!
In His Love Always,
Cheryl
