Feed the Deer

Folder:
2005

a thick sheet of snow draped over the yard like fog in the sky

trees are decorated reaching with their fingertips up high

one by one deer appear all around surrounding the fields

they are driven by hunger waiting for their next meal

I hold out a pretzel and the deer stare at me very still

never letting me leave their sight as they stand on the hill

one of them starts to walk towards me cautiously moving it's little feet

looking all around listening to every sound like it is crossing the street

I wait and wait for one of the deer to approach me, they get so near

but then they draw away consumed by a sudden burst of fear

finally one of them walks towards me and stares me straight in the eye, we meet

it smells the pretzel cautiously examining it and then  starts to slowly eat

I smiled as I looked around at all the company I had here

and I walked away being changed for life by feeding the deer

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is about feeding the deer in my uncle's back yard where he lives in Pennsylvania where there are tons of deer around.

This was really beautiful. Very descriptive. I could see the whole scene taking place. Well done!
