Freedom

Today I am free

Free from the struggle and strife called life.

I have shed the shroud covering me

cocooned caterpillar.

Who once bathed in a glistening stream of tears.

Now baptized in the sunlight where tomorrow is born.

No more need to dream of stardom for now

the planet I am.

I am earth in its purest form

Free from scorn, not worn or polluted with

artificial, superficial thoughts, beliefs

which still serve as stockades to those with masters.

I have no domain yet I own the skyline on which birds walk.

My brothers claim streets and slang,

When my ancestors sang they knew not freedom, but death.

In death they are free and the free become dead because to die is to claim one’s self from the earth.

You know that I love this poem. This line is what it's all about:
"You cannot pawn your reflection to discover your worth"

That line speaks so much truth.
