speak from your scars
i heard a phrase
a powerful sentence
that a poet read,
a sentiment i've known
but long better to know,
"don't speak from your wounds,
speak from your scars," she said.
i'd like to have written them,
and call them my own,
say i discovered them
while writing alone,
but they were not mine
until they were given,
freely given to me.
some days i know of no other place,
to speak from than my scars,
and have no other wisdom than that obtained
by my wounded, broken heart...
There is a paradox in this
There is a paradox in this poem: its relative brevity, and the way the lines are formatted make for an interesting poem. But, if I may say so with the utmost respect, its subject matter is so poignant that it is also a difficukt poem to read. But, towering above those aspects (which, balance each other out), is this aspect: it is a very important poem to read!!!!!!
