And I looked so yearningly
To the glowing western horizon,
obscured
By a lonely borderline of
magnificent white pine
That traced along the murky river's
edge
Swallowing water from the earth,
silently sipping
Seeded by deceased farmers still
alive at midnight
Their ghosts jubilant in deserted
fields traversed
By lovers following a summer breeze
and the scent
Of fragrant flowers blossoming and
half- lit trailers
Dogs howling under an Autumn
Harvest Moon
I felt such hunger, such a thirst,
such wonder
My worries suddenly forgotten,
submerged
Into a September sea of haze and
mist
In the presence of a beautiful
scarlet indigo dusk
The sun sliding quickly down into
the western sea
And my heart is breaking....
Sinking into the horizon like a
brilliant star
Extinguished in its magnificent arc
