Read Between The Lines throughout the years i've tried
struggles i've survived
and tears i've cried
still i rise
making it without a father
raised by momz and loved by the family
if only you could imagine the things i've had to endure
unconscious on a bed
not knowing if i was to awaken or if i was lying there on my death bed
sometimes i often wonder how'd been if he'd just tooken me
had anyone missed me
here i stand forgiving those who've hurted me
you no longer have controll of me
here i stand with my head held high waving those whom neglected me
now bye
here i stand stronger and wiser
living the moment like there's no tomorrow

This poem really stirred my emotions. I like a poem that sets fire to my pain - once in a while, and this poem did that; perhaps, because I have had similar struggles. I was raised by Catholic Nuns in an orphanage. When I finally got adopted, I was beaten almost daily, until finally at age seventeen I ran away to join the United States Marine Corps. At age eighteen I saw my first real combat. I was wounded twice, and the whole time I thought God was punishing me. Then I woke up to the realization that "I did nothing wrong." I climbed out, and the rest is history! Anyway, I have a few of my favorite quotes for you, because it is not about reaching the top of the mountain, it is about how you climb it, and that requires serious effort, sometimes pain, and many times life-threatening struggles - before getting to the place you feel you need (or want) to be.
