AN ARTFUL DODGER WAS SHE

Like a sad epic am I

Like a long lost tune am I

Something she couldn't understand

Like that hard question am I.

First she lavished her love on me

Said I was for her a noble prince

Then she changed her attitude

And behaved as if there was

Nothing between her and me

Ah, how she chose to ruin me

With insults hurled cruelly

While walking away from me!

Left I am like that waning moon

Floating past dim nights silently.

Ah, what a sad epic am I...

If she had a grudge in her heart

If she had sought but revenge

Why did she say that she loved me

Why did she promise joys to me

Ah, the travesty of fate

When she changed herself completely

Leaving me depressed and lonely!

Like a sad epic am I

Like a long lost tune am I

A question she couldn't understand

That difficult question am I...

She mocked my love artfully

Behaving very scornfully

What an artful dodger was she!

Like a sad epic am I

Like a long lost tune am I...
