THE ROSE AND THE NIGHTINGALE

And the rose broke the nightingale's heart, saying:

"You sing because you can do naught but singing"

And the love the bird had professed for the flower

Was returned with a spurn and a disdainful mocking.

This short poem contains much sadness, but is beautiful, too, in a way. It says it all in its brevity.
