REMINDER TO A LOVER

Can memories wither away or die,

Can’t the echo be its own reply,

Can passing years snatch it all away,

When you and your beloved walked high.

Swat has its rain, but tears are storms,

And broken hearts cannot sing songs;

It is good to dance and bide the time,

It is a sin to lie and make a heart pine.

Your mind wakes up to the dawn of Swat,

Your heart seeks to forget what it can’t,

You talk of ties -- to shield your flight,

While ignoring sighs of earthshaking might.

Let me not hear or read lame tales,

Love is too strong to be quenched by wails,

It is so difficult to spread some joy around,

You lost the chance to give beyond bound.

The autumn leaves are not unkind,

The joy of spring they always unwind,

The flowing brook laughs at mortal whims,

Memories stay fresh they can’t be dimmed.
