FRIENDSHIPS

I have always found friendships,

To be more stronger and more lasting,

More solid and less prone to slips,

Than the bond defined as love.

My childhood friends whose faces now,

As I know must have changed a lot,

Yet their playful images of the past,

Are as fresh with me and shall ever last.

I still remember big Joshua John,

And charming Daphne whom I adored,

Like the first breeze of dawn she was,

And lovelier than a dewdrop on a petal's brow.

Dainty and slender as the waving grass,

She was always serene as a peace-filled dream,

Forever in my whole being she is destined to stay,

Even if the years pass by and turn us gray.

And then I am lucky to be blessed with Shazi,

Who proved himself as my time-tested friend,

There came Moby, Rebecca and Jaycee Collette too

But none can outclass Shazi as my best friend.

Love, I have seen, withers and dies,

But friendships -- they keep growing stronger,

Time may dull the other feelings we share,

But fails to affect a friendship quite rare.

Hang on to your friends, O friends, they are rare,

And fulfil your role as a true friend indeed,

And believe you me, there is nothing we will lose,

But will gain a lot more from a friend to a friend.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem is dedicated to Daphne and Joshua John, Shazi, Moby, Nadir Ali, Rebecca,
and several other schoolmates, whom I shall never forget.
