FOR WHOM DO THE DEWDROPS WEEP?

For what cause does the dew shed its tears?

Who cares for its brightening flowers at night?

At a time when most of the world is asleep,

For whom do the dewdrops mourn and weep?

The night air cares not as it blows by,

Then, for whose love, does the dew cry?

The dewdrops keep on weeping silently,

Perhaps a lovelorn heart is sobbing painfully.

The dew with its tears beautifies all flowers,

And overhead the clouds too hold their showers.

In the mourning of evening life gets a warning,

That all that appears lovely is not long lasting.

And watching the dew replenishing the night air,

My heart too feels sad for the state of affair.

It's as if we too like to glisten like the flowers,

But are doomed to wither soon as crumpled bowers.

How touchingly does the dew reveal deep secrets,

What we think as ours causes us only regrets.

And so, like the dewdrops decorating for dawn,

We too must live and suffer, for the flowers, unborn.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by the changing weather of August. As dusk fell I could feel the dew in the evening breeze and the way it was washing the dusty faces of almost each and every leaf and flower. We see these beautiful dewdrops as S.T. Coleridge describes in a poem as "the gems of morning" but then contemplates to call them as the "tears of mournful eve". This made me mull as well and this poem is the result. I seem to have been conveyed a divine message of living by the dewdrops and I have tried to share this impression in my work. Hope readers like it. All rights reserved by the author.

THANK YOU SO MUCH

Thank you so much hopeful woman. I feel deep inside that we two poets have a lot of common between the two of us. Don't you also feel this way at times?
