How To Get Started With Muay Thai Training

Taking up Muay Thai Bondi can be a daunting experience. Some people get nervous by just thinking about Muay Thai. After all, this is a brutal sport that can get you injured. While there are some risks, Muay Thai comes with a lot of benefits. However, if you want to enjoy these benefits, it is important to know how to get started and practice safely. Here are a few tips to help you get started with Muay Thai.

Know what to expect

If there is a good gym that teaches Muay Thai sydney, you should know a few things you should expect before your visit. Upon approaching the Thai boxing gym, you will hear some hard thumping from far away. You might even hear loud grunting. Most of the fighters will be male and a lot of fighters will be in great shape. You should expect them to sweat a lot and fighters are likely to size up silently. If you come with a bad attitude, you could be put back in your place in seconds. Do not worry, they will recognise you as a beginner and this means they will not harm you.

If this sounds bad then you should not be afraid because, after some time, you will get used to it. The reality is that if you are a newcomer, you will likely be welcome. You will start by learning some of the most basic Muay Thai techniques and working on pads and bags. You will also be doing a lot of sit-ups and pushups and other bodyweight exercises.

Do not expect to spar on your first day because the coach will wait until you are ready to spar. Even then, it will be up to you. No one wants to injure you or force you into doing something you aren’t ready for.

Finding a gym

If there is a gym sydney, you will know about it. It is important to understand that there are not so many gyms for Thai boxing compared to regular workout gyms. However, with the internet, you will easily find a suitable gym for your Thai boxing classes.

What do you need?

When it comes to equipment, you will need little to start off with your training. For your first lesson, you should turn up in a pair of loose-fitting shorts or trousers and a t-shirt. Thai boxing is done without shoes so you will not need to put on trainers.

In the long run, you will end up purchasing shorts for your training, sparring gloves, bag gloves, anklets, shin pads, and hand wraps. This is a modest investment compared to other sports. If you value your teeth then you should protect them. You should also wear a groin guard. You can purchase a generic mouth guard if you don’t have enough money to buy a more expensive mouth guard.

Prepare for your first class

During your first Muay Thai Bondi class, you do not have to be physically hard. Follow the instructions of your coach and do some workouts to get fit. You will also learn the basics but do not expect to spar.
